How did you get into acting? Did you always want to become an actor?
I drifted into it while studying to be a Physical Education teacher, and went straight from PE school to Drama school and have been acting ever since. I actually thought I would become a Farmer like my Dad.
If you could play any character from any film - which would it be?
Carlito from Carlito's Way, however Al Pacino is a god so....
Did you read The Lord of the Rings? Which part of the book did you liked best? Which character did you like best?
Yeah read it when I was seven and of course thought Aragorn was the Character I would most like to meet.
What did you expect before you came to The Fellowship Festival? What do you think of such conventions now? Would you go again?
I'd had lots of feedback from guys and gals that had been to similar events both for Rings and for Xena and Hercules so I knew what to expect. I enjoy telling the Fans about what went on behind the scenes to make these films. Yeah, I would do it again for sure.

I speak a little bit of Maori which is the official second Language in NZ, and the Language of our indigeonous Culture
How long did you work on Lord of the Rings and what is your fave/funniest memory?
I worked for 3 years in total and my favourite experience was working as a Rider for the Horse Department and doing the big Charges on the Pelenor Fields.

Quotes from Jed:
|
About working with Viggo: The great thing about Viggo is that he does all his own stunts, so it gets other people wanting to do their own stunts. We had a few times where he butted me a bit hard, and I strangled him a bit too hard- but we worked it out. ( source: Official Lotr movie magazine)
About the best roles: The most fun parts to play are the evil characters. Christopher Lee said to me, " The devil gets all the best lines". That's quite right. Alfhough, having seen what the romatic leads have been doing, they have pretty cool parts, too. ( source: Official Lotr movie magazine)
About preparing for a character: I start getting my growls going and getting aggressive, and I say "Get the hell out of my way" to people I normally wouldn't say that to. You have to start doing that to get in character.( source: Official Lotr movie magazine)
About reactions to his orc costume: It freaked them out. My son didn't know it was me, and I walked up to him and said, "Aaargh!" and he said "Ohhhhh!". It really freaked him out. I had to say, " It's me- your dad!"( source: Official Lotr movie magazine)
Pavement Magazine (Summer 2003/2004, Issue 62) Wellington actor Jed Brophy probably plays more characters in The Lord of the Rings trilogy than any other actor but you would be doing well to recognise him. "Well, in the first film I played one of the Black Riders, on of the Nazgul on horseback," lists Brophy. "In the second film, I'm three characters. I played a little red-eyed orc called Snaga who, along with the Uruk-Hai, steals Merry and Pippin and wants to eat them. Later on, I play a young cptain of Eomer's guard who find the dead King Theoden. That didn't appear in the actual film, it's only in the DVD version. And I played the leader of the Warg riders, Sharku, who has a battle with Aragorn and sends him over the cliff. Also, in the second film, when you see the Nazgul on the beast over the Dead Marshed, I'm that character as well. And in the third film I play one of the dressers of the Witch King before he goes off to battle. " Phew! To play his multitude of characters, Brophy spent up to six and a half hours each shoot day having his prosthetics applied- for what probably amounts to about six and a half minutes of screen time. Also, Brophy, an experienced horseman, worked with the equestrian department sporadically throughout the three-year production, training and riding the horses. No film production in New Zealand has ever required so much horse work, he says, although the special effects department occasionally used computer-generated horses for the most dangerous stunts. "The Weta Digital people did an amazing job," he says. " They spent a lot of time shooting the horses from different angles and mapping that into the computer. To be honest, I couldn't tell you now which ones are the real horses and which ones aren't." Brophy spent most of his time filming in Glenorchy near Queenstown, which kept him away from his family for about a year. To make up in part, both his children appear in the film: one as a hobbit, the ther in a role he can't reveal. But he doesn't regret the sacrifices he made to be part of the trilogy. " A film of this magnitude, we're never going to get to do it again. I don't think Peter would want to shoot three films on the trot again. It was an amazing thing for him to do and an amazing thing for all of us involved but it was incredibly time-consuming and stressful. There were a couple of 18-hours days where we only got a couple of hours sleepp before having to be back on set the next day but I loved every minute of it."
