Jed Brophy was born on 29 october 1963 on a very large farm in a township called Mataroa that is close to Taihape most famous as the Gumboot capital of New Zealand. It was here that he learned to ride and train horses, and also where he first thought about becoming an actor.

After a brief period training to teach Physical Education, Jed then went to train at the NZ Drama School. After graduating Jed began his professional acting career and performed in over forty professional Theatres shows, twenty films (Feature and short) and has appeared in dozens of television shows.He played the character of Dr. Jack Galloway on soap Shortland Street and appeared in Peter Jackson's comedy-horror Braindead. Shortly after Brophy would feature in another Peter Jackson film, this time the critically-acclaimed Heavenly Creatures. His credits include also Once on Chunuk Bair, Chicken, the award winning short 'Lemming Aid', 'Fracture 'with John Noble and of course the 'LORD of THE RINGS' trilogy in which he played several different roles!

Jed is married and has 2 boys (Riley and Sadwyn), who both have already acting experiences themselves. His first son Riley was a Hobbit listening to Gandalf telling stories in FOTR and he also played Merry and Pippin's double and Frodo's double. He also did several short films, tv series and voice overs.

His son Sadwyn appeared in Return of the King as Eldarion (Arwen & Aragorn's son in Arwen's vision).

At this moment Jed is working on his house to make it just like he always wanted. Also he will start a tour this year in theaters in London, and if there is enough money they will try to go to other countries in Europe also.

Jed is a member of the band "The Last Resort", which is a 6 piece band. The members are Stefan Wolf, Daniel Bar Evan, Piers Gilbertson, John Wraight, Sean Allan and of course Jed.
